Based in Laurens, South Carolina, Southern Slabs have been in business for over 8 years as Koons Sawmill. A veteran owned business, run by Chris Koon, all Southern Slabs slabs and mantles are products of Koon’s Sawmill. We do all the work from sawing, drying,  sterilization to flattening in house.

Frequently asked questions about our live edge slabs

  • We carry most domestic species from South Carolina, including; Black Walnut, Red and White Oak, Maple, Rainbow Poplar, Cedar, Pecan and more.

  • Our slabs range from $100 to $3000 depending on size and type of wood.

  • Our largest slabs are up to 60 inches wide, and up to 12.5 feet long.

  • This can vary, however we’re working on a range of turn-key products meaning you can show up, choose & walk away with your slab all on the same day. For other un-finished slabs, there may be a wait time of up to 6 weeks.

  • We don’t offer delivery right now, but we do have some contacts that we can recommend to you for delivery of your slab.

  • We receive the logs, saw them and then store them for over a year to slowly air dry the wood. The next step is to vacuum kiln-dry the wood which, reduces the moisture level further and sterilizes them to make them suitable for use in the home. Finally we flatten the slabs to make them perfectly flat, ready for them to be turned into the piece of furniture of your dreams!
